Steve Carcarey is in his fifth season as coach of Widener’s baseball team.

Entering the year with an 87-64-1 record, Carcarey has left his mark on the program and has his sites set on better things. Last year, he took Widener to a third straight Commonwealth Conference Tournament, a school-record 26 victories and was one victory away from advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

Under Carcarey’s leadership, Widener owns a 74-43-1 record over the last three years.

Carcarey also is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).

Prior to joining Widener’s staff in 2003, Carcarey was the head coach at Kennedy-Kenrick High School in Norristown for five seasons. His teams advanced to the Philadelphia Catholic League playoffs four times in that span and competed in the 2001 title game.

Carcarey has had 16 of his high school players extend their baseball careers at the collegiate level. Chris Lubanski was the most prominent, taken fifth overall by the Kansas City Royals in the 2002 Major League Baseball draft. Lubanski also was named the Gatorade National Player of the Year.

Prior to Carcarey’s head coaching responsibilities at Kennedy-Kenrick, he was the head coach of the junior varsity programs at Norristown Area High School (1993-98) and Bishop Kenrick (1990-93). Carcarey graduated from Bishop Kenrick in 1988 and from Montgomery County Community College in 1991.

Carcarey resides in Trappe, PA with his wife Patrizia, daughter Skye, 16, and son Steven, 2.
